Monday 16th March 2020
This evening the UK Government has updated its guidance on COVID-19 and is recommending the avoidance of all non-essential contact.
As brass banding and other arts hobbies are non-essential, we would recommend that all brass band rehearsals, public performances and other activities are put on hold until the Government guidance changes.
The scaba AGM, scheduled to take place in early April, has been cancelled. All current executive committee positions will remain unchanged and no further meetings will be planned or held until such time as the Government guidance on non-essential and social contact changes.
The Entertainment Contest, due to take place on 31st March, has also been cancelled.
Stay safe, take care of each other, and please let us know if the association can do anything to support your bands during this challenging time.
Thursday 12th March 2020
After careful consideration of our duty of care to participants and volunteers, and consultation with local councils and other advisors, scaba has made the difficult decision to cancel both the Southern Counties Youth Band (SCYB) Easter Residential course and the Solo, Quartet and Ensemble competition due to take place in April.
In light of increasing concerns about, and spread of, the COVID-19 virus, we felt this was the best way to proceed during such an unprecedented global situation. We are very disappointed that we are unable to hold these events for the young players and community bandsmen and women in our area, but I am confident that we have made the right decision based on the available information at this time.
Plans will be made to reschedule both the Youth Band course and the competition later in the year, once the situation becomes more stable.
