AVB recently took time out of rehearsal to hold their Annual General Meeting.
Chairman Mike Balls reflected on an immensely successful year, which was in turn echoed by Musical Director Roger Burke during his report. Roger complimented the band members on their unstinting commitment and support they had afforded him during the year. He hoped that the band would continue ‘doing things the way it was, as it was proving to be very successful and enjoyable’. He reflected on major events during the year including qualification to the National Brass Band Championship Finals and recording the first CD, due for release soon. Band Manager, Alan Frampton, reported on the band activities and thanked all those members who had helped him with ad-hoc tasks and for the support at engagements. Alan complimented the members on bringing about a real family feeling and a good sense of team work.
The annual presentation of awards took place with solo horn, Liz McGrath, receiving the ‘Musician of the Year‘ trophy as awarded by the Musical Director. Chairman Mike Balls has worked tremendously hard since taking over the role and the members showed their appreciation by voting him as ‘Band Person of the Year’. (see picture)
The election of officers saw some minor changes to the administration line-up with Roy Hancock, who has looked after the financials for many years, deciding to take a well earned break. Roy was duly thanked for all of his hard work. Rob Greene has taken over as Treasurer, relinquishing his role as Contest Secretary, which has now been taken over by principal cornet, Peter Haigh.
